The Equality Act 2010
Today the majority of the Equality Act 2010 will come into force and will replace the Disability Discrimination Act. The Act aims to strengthens and bring together all nine separate pieces of legislation so that disabled people and other groups will have greater protection from discrimination.
Much of the previous Disability Discrimination Act is included in the Equality Act such as service providers legal responsibility to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. It also includes some new areas of protection such as additional protection from disability-related harassment in relation to access to goods and services and in larger private clubs.
