New Taxi Guidance

More campaigning at a european level looks to improve taxi travel for disabled people. Here is the accessibility checklist produced by the European Disability Forum(EDF) and the International Road Transport Union(IRU).

We are pleased to see that the taxi access checklist talks alot about drivers attitudes. In the guidelines, drivers are told not to assume they know the customers needs, but always to ask them what assistance they would like. Staff attitudes is a key issue that Action for Access campaigners have told us makes a huge differece in how accessible a service is, especailly in the area of public transport.

The EDF and the IRU are lobbying the European Parliament to include taxis in the upcoming White Paper on the future of the EU Transport Policy in the period 2010-2020.
