Rutland Access Group, held their annual Access Awareness day in Uppingham Rutland recently. Find out more about the day here.
Uppington is an old town with many lsited buildings and narrow streets. Two group navigated around the town looking at genral accessibility and highlightig problems encountred. Each group consisted of a wheelchair user, a local authority highways officer, plus other members of Rutland Access Group.
A report has now been prepared highlighting problems with dropped kerbs, with the lack of dropped kerbs, poor surfacing and parking issues associated with dropped kerbs. However the biggest issue was the forest of A boards cluttering up the narrow pavements. The report has been sent to the local councils with the hope that some improvements will be made.
During the walk around a number of buildings were also assessed using the action for Access survey sheets and the results can be found here.
