Fancy a pint?
In Scotland there is a new law relating to access to licensed premises. For more information and to share your views on how pubs across the UK should advertise their accessibility, read on.
The Scottish Parliament passed the Criminal Justice and Licensing Act in June, which contained an important amendment. The amendment will require those applying for licenses (to run pubs, for example) to produce a statement outlining how accessible their premises and facilities are for disabled people.
The amendment came about as a result of a successful campaign by activist, Mark Cooper, with the support of Capability Scotland. They have now been consulted by the Scottish Government on what form the guidance should take, and we would like to know what you think the guidance should say.
Although the law will apply only in Scotland there are campaigners in other parts of the UK lobbying for the introduction of a similar amendment and we would like to hear from everyone.
In order to ensure that the guidance can best reflect the views of disabled people, we'd like to know how you would answer the following questions.
1. What kind of information (i.e. wheelchair access/disabled toilet) would you find useful when deciding on a venue for socialising?
2. How would you like this information to be made available? (i.e. online, local library, etc.)
Please email your answers, where you live and any further comments that you would like to add to
